There are many things in life that I enjoy. Woodturning is just one of them so I don't allow it to take more than its share of my time. I believe the enjoyment I have during the time spent with my wife, family and other gratifying activities make for a better me.

When working at my lathe I enjoy the smell, touch and visual sensations of creating from the raw material nature has provided. Much of the intended final configuration and colors of my turnings are influenced by the shape, form and conditions of the wood both inside and outside. I think of myself as an unwrapper of gifts from nature. Often the shape changes due to exposure of certain grain or, what some see as flaws, I consider a unique variation and nature's gift. I enjoy working the limitations of wood.

I am in a constant mode of schooling destined never to graduate. Each piece presents a trial unlike all previous, opportunities for experiment, new chances to create uniqueness. Each piece is different. I get a pleasant feeling from each new adventure, challenge, and the creation of art.

I turn when and what I want -- turnings I conceive -- so I may enjoy revealing natures creations. I shy away from any form of production or repetitive work. As I continue to savor the delights and elation of wood turning I wish for others to share in the pleasure of the gifts of nature that I've unwrapped.
